March 19th – Trashy Run in Mebane with the MRC!!!

  • As promised the MRC is going to give back to the community this year, but don’t worry it will be fun!  We are going to begin to incorporate our quarterly litter/trash runs starting on March 19th at the Saturday morning group run.  (Our Sat. runs will move back to 7:30 a.m. this date as well due to daylight savings time.)  We will split into groups and try to conquer some of our regular routes and pick-up any and all trash that we find along the way.  Individuals will be given personal baggies and a pair of gloves (who knows what we find out there.)
  • Once we return to the coffee shop we will sort through the bags and pull out any recyclable items found.  We will also have prizes for the runner that finds the most unusual/interesting item found, the most recyclable trash and the most trash over all.
  • Runner’s World magazine actually highlighted the idea and clubs that perform this civic duty in July 2010.  It includes a  funny article with terms those clubs have elected.  Please try not to rubberneck, be rear-ended and definitely do not be dubbed a trash-lek.  I hope you will all come out of help clean up our Mebane routes!
  • Thanks to our VP Amanda for putting this project together! Please bring your family and friends!

March 19th – Zeta Franklin 5K in Chapel Hill

We would like to host a 5K fun run and 1 mile walk and run in our neighborhood to raise money for cystic fibrosis. I am looking for a timer for a race on Saturday, May 14th this year. This will not be a big event probably a couple hundred runners. Since it is a fundraiser we would like to limit the cost of the have a chip system. Does anybody know somebody who I could contact?

    • mebanerunning says:

Nicole – Try onthemarksports.com. They are a timing company out of Greensboro. We’ve worked with them before and have found them very reasonable.
(I’m assuming you are local. If not, try contacting your local Road Runners’ Club of America race club and ask for a recommendation. RRCA.org.
      Thanks!
