A marathon like no other…
The race is help over a 1.6 mile loop.  The first lap is 2.2 miles then you will run 15 laps of 1.6 miles.

The race is a Boston Qualifier for our solo participants but the majority of the field is comprised of 4 person teams.  There is a category for every team… there are relay categories based on age and weight.

September 17 – 18th – Blue Ridge Relay

Congratulations to MRC members Steve Gray and Dawn Messinger on their participation on different Blue Ridge Relay teams. This is a 208 mile event that starts in Virginia and ends in Asheville, North Carolina with participants on teams as large as 12 running over trails and roads through the day and night to finish!

September 18th – Retro Run 5K in Greensboro

The MRC was well represented at the Retro Run, which started outside the Grasshoppers Stadium, looped through downtown Greensboro and ended up on the field, with food and beer afterwards. Prizes were given for the best 70′s costume, with the MRC’s own Caleb Baker winning a pair of running shoes! And the prizes (cool Retro Run glasses) were given out to the top 5 finishers in each category so the MRC really cleaned up. Even the kids got in on the action with a run around the outer track of the ball field. Congrats to Ethan, Anneke and Elliot for finishing that loooooong distance.

Excerpt: Unless you’ve been living underground, you know by now that the 33 men trapped in a Chilean mine are finally being pulled out, 69 days after it collapsed. In a world hungry for upbeat news, this story has gained a ton of attention, and rightly so.

One tiny aspect of the story, though, hasn’t gotten much notice. From a profile of the trapped miners in London’s Daily Telegraph:
Edison Pena, 34, the fittest miner, has reportedly been running 10km a day underground. Also requested that Elvis Presley songs be sent down into the mine.”
