I am new to the area and would like to get back into running. I have not ran in over a year. Does the MRC support beginners/walkers building up to a runners pace?

      • mebanerunning says:

Katie – The MRC is ALWAYS open to newer or returning runners. There are usually 3-4 slower paced or beginning runners who would appreciate company on any given Saturday morning, and on most Wednesday evenings. Please come out and join us!

        • Roseanna says:

May I bring a baby with a jogger stroller? And, if I am in the slow group, what time does the activity tend to wrap up?

        • mebanerunning says:

Babies and toddlers in jogging strollers are welcome (and seen frequently at group runs!)
Slow group – well that really depends on which group you run with and how far you run. Our average group runs about 3-4 miles at about 9 – 11 minute miles…
          Hope that helps!

    3. Debbie says:

Is there a minimum age limit to join the club?

      • mebanerunning says:

There is no minimum age limit – but we do request that any single member joining who is under 18 obtain their parent or guardian’s signature and information on the membership form. Otherwise an entire household can join and add all members. Thanks for your interest in the Mebane Running Club!

    4. Dunbar says:

I will be visiting Elon in a few weeks from Houston and would like to have a group to meet with for my regular Saturday long run. How long are your Saturday runs? thanks

      • mebanerunning says:

You are more than welcome to join us! We have about six folks training for a half marathon right now so it really depends on when you will be here. Normally we have groups that run anywhere from 3-6 miles, but we have bunches running 8-12 due to training. September is REALLY busy around here for races so that might be an option as well. Let us know when you’ll be here and we’ll try and point you in the right direction. Mebane is an easy 15-20 minute drive from Elon.
Hope you enjoy your visit to the area!

    5. Jeff says:

Hey there. Was interested in getting into the running groups and was wondering if you had started/planned some runs for the OBX half? Am running mostly alone in Elon, so would be nice to have some company on the longer runs in the next two months. Thanks!
      Jeff

      • mebanerunning says:

        Jeff –
We have several MRC members that are training for the OBX or City of Oaks Half-Marathons. Perhaps there are 5-7 total right now?

We also usually have 2-4 members on any given Saturday who are interested in longer runs (5+ miles.) While you are welcome to join us on Mondays or Wednesdays, the Saturday group run tends to have the largest participation, so you are most likely to find some folks who will be doing longer runs.

Come out and join us any time! You don’t need to be a club member to run with the club. Or post something on the Mebane Running Club facebook page. Hope to see you out with us soon.

    6. Leslie Stong says:

      HI there,

I thought there was a new runners program where you trained for a 5k in the spring? Will you let me know if there is a program like this? My husband and I are interested.

      Thank you,

      Leslie

      • mebanerunning says:

Yes…there is a New Runners’ Program which starts February 22nd and culminates with the Dogwood 5K on April 30th, 2011. Just click on NEW RUNNERS’ PROGRAM in the second line of the menu above. Hold your mouse over the NRP and you’ll see the FAQ’s and a link to information about our coaches.

The registration form will be posted shortly. We look forward to seeing you in the program!

    7. Barbara says:

I was thinking about registering as a new runner/member and I noticed that there are two forms and two different fees. Do I need to fill out both and pay both amounts?

    8. George Weinstein says:

I live in Morrisville/Durham and run with the Galloway groups in Raleigh on the weekend, but I work in Mebane at Kidde and want to find something during the week I can get to. .

      1) What do you all do on Monday and Wednesday? Does your group do any special speed work on Monday and Wednesday (yassos, mile repeats) or is it just run faster for shorter distances on Monday and Wednesday or is it just a normal run on Monday and Wednesday?

      2) Is it too late to join? Has the season already started?

We generally run a 3-4 mile course on Mondays and Wednesday. There is no specific speedwork but some folks do intervals, and more will be as it gets lighter and spring approaches. Our normal speeds on M/W range from a 7:45/m to a 10:30/m. Folks break up into small groups depending on their speed and their training plan.

        2) Is it too late to join? Has the season already started?
        - No, it’s not too late to join us. Anyone can run with the MRC on group runs! We do have a membership option if you want to get all of the latest updates, hear about any time or weather changes on an up to the minute basis, order shirts, get race and gear discounts, etc. Just click the Membership link at the top of the page.

Thanks for your questions! Hope to see you out on a group run!
